Abby recently moved from sunny California to the Midwest. She has lived all her life in California and wasn’t aware that she is just now living in tornado alley. Neither she nor her family members had ever experienced severe weather. She remembers clearly the first time she experienced a tornado siren.

“I was in my apartment when I heard the odd humming of the outdoor siren. The siren was very scary and I didn’t know what it meant or how to respond. Am I in danger? What should I do? It took me a few seconds to calm down. I was under the impression that the tornado was going to hit my apartment at any second”.

It goes without saying that I did live through the horrible event and learned to pay more attention to weather forecasts. After actually experiencing the feeling of not knowing what to do, I am motivated to learn more about tornado safety.
