According
to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), you should have a
tornado safety plan:
-
Shelter Area:
Designate an area in your home where you want to take shelter.
Everybody in the family should know about that area. Keep the
shelter area uncluttered.
-
Tornado Practice Drills:
Conduct tornado practice drills so everybody in the
family know to go to the selected shelter area as a response
to the tornado threat.
- Watch
& Warning:
Discuss with family members the difference between a “tornado
watch” & a “tornado warning”.
-
Communication Plan:
Make an out-of-state relative or a friend as your “emergency
family contact”. By only calling a single person
after a tornado it helps local phone systems from crashing.
Make sure that everybody in the family knows the name,
address, and contact number of that person. This may be
especially helpful if any of the members is separated from the
family during the tornado. It is real possibility because
adults may be at home/office and children may be in school.
